Underage 2011

Underage Festival 2011 will take place in Victoria Park, London from 11am to 8pm on Friday the 5th of August. As you know, Underage Festival is the World’s first strictly 13 to under 17′s credible music festival. The Festival will host 10’000 teenagers attending this event with a load of rock n’ roll bands with no parents or guardians allowed. We know that for many, this may send alarm bells ringing – you want to know what health and safety and security procedures are in place and what amenities will be available. Underage Festival is working directly with the local Police and Tower Hamlets in the following departments: Health & Safety, Child Protection, Environmental Health, Events and Licensing. Together we have put in place systems which will give your teenager a great and safe time. TfL’s journey planner will give tell you the best way of getting to and from the park www.tfl.gov.uk Remember that all Under16s can travel free on the bus and tram with their free Zip Oyster photocard - www.tfl.gov.uk/zip if the kids haven’t already got one We hope the following information answers all your questions and puts you at ease.

Travel

Victoria Park is located in Tower Hamlets, in the east end of London. There are no parking spaces at all in the immediate vicinity of Victoria Park, so please don’t bring your car, but use public transport to reach the venue instead. To get to Victoria Park by tube, take the Central Line to Bethnal Green or Mile End. You can always check out the Transport for London Journey Planner at http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk to help plan your journey. Don’t forget that with you can travel for free on the bus and tram with your Zip Oyster card – don’t forget to touch in when you board. The nearest Tube stations to Victoria Park are: Mile End (District and Central lines), Bow Road (District Line), Stratford (Jubilee Line), Bow Church (DLR) and Bethnal Green (Central line). The nearest Overground rail stations to Victoria Park are: Hackney Wick (East London line), Cambridge Heath (National Rail) and Bethnal Green (National Rail). Big Green Coach, the music travel company, will be providing official return coach services direct to Underage Festival on Friday 5th August. No need to get dropped off by your folks, stop them nagging you about how you’re gonna get to the festival, and join other Underage Festival lovers onboard the Big Green Coach directly to the heart of Underage Festival.

Coaches operate from Brighton, Crawley, Hemel Hempstead, Luton, Milton Keynes and Redhill and ensure you don’t miss a minute of the Underage Festival action. Security

There will be experienced security on the entrance gate (AP Security) who will be asking for ID to ensure that only those young people between 13 and 17 are granted entry. Acceptable identification needs to include a photo eg Passports. If the ticket holder is unable provide acceptable ID when required, the security guard will refuse admittance – refunds are not applicable. This is a term of entry. All ticket holders will enter at the main gate. Here their age will be checked and they will be given a light pat down search by AP Security. Any ticket holders AP Security feel need a more extensive search or questioning, will be asked to move over to a Male or Female search tent manned by two same sex, CRB checked security officers. The ticket holder has a right to refuse being searched, but of course, we retain the right to refuse admittance. This system has been extensively researched and agreed with by the local authorities and Police who will also be present. Inside the perimeter, the Festival will have an experienced security company manning and securing the site with CRB checking for any personnel who could be in close contact with the audience.

Parents & Guardians

Parents and guardians will not be permitted to enter the site  but are welcome to come to the gate to ensure that young people enter the site. There will be catering outside the site serving hot and cold drinks while you wait.

Parking

There is a small allocation of car parking spaces available from 6pm at Victoria Park at Gate 5. It holds a maximum of 100 cars and works on a first come basis from 6pm. Any cars parked in this area after 9pm will be towed away. 

Mobiles and Public Telephones

We expect guardians to equip their teenagers with a mobile phone for the day as there is no public telephone on site. We do have telephone lines in case of emergency only. In the case of emergency, young people should go the welfare tent inside the site adjacent to the main entrance where our staff will provide assistance.

Alcohol

As an underage festival we do not allow any alcohol on the festival site. The bars on site serve only non-alcohol drinks and all bags are checked for alcohol by security upon entry to the festival.

Drop off Point

There is no official drop off point. Please consult your Travel Page and drop near to either Royal Gate or Crown Gate at Victoria Park.

Collection Point

If you are driving and collecting your teenagers, firstly please equip them with a fully charged mobile phone for the day. Consult the website map and pick a place and time to meet.

Welfare Facilities

The welfare tent is the central hub for all child welfare issues on site and will be manned throughout the event by experienced  and suitably qualified child welfare staff. It is located inside the main gate – if you need to contact thewelfare team, please come to the main public entrance to the festival and ask security to contact the welfare team. You will not be permitted to enter the site.

Finding Us

The most direct route to the Festival is from Mile End tube station along Grove Road. Please consult your Travel Page for the many other routes (Silverlink, Bus and tube) to the site.

First Aid

St John’s Ambulance are providing First Aid services to the event and may be found at the welfare area adjacent to the main entrance and by the main stage.

General Info

There will be an information point for all enquiries including local transport information. This is located at the welfare area by the main entrance.

Cashpoints

Cashpoints will be available on site, but will charge for withdrawls. Please ensure that young people have sufficient money with them.

Food

There will be several food concesions on site selling a wide variety of food and drink to festival goers. We aim to provide a good mix including vegetarian options.

Only sealed bottles of water up to 1L capacity will be permitted in to the event. No other types of drink, or unsealed bottles are allowed.

Pets!

Pets of any kind are not permitted.

Disabled Ticket Holders

Underage Festival offer a 2 for 1 scheme for disabled ticket holders who require full time assistance. This means that a free ticket is given to the accompanying PA.
To apply for this 2 for 1 scheme please buy your Underage Festival Ticket as usual and email info@underagefestival.me.uk or phone 0207 690 0106 to obtain an application form for the additional ticket.
You will need to send this along with the below to Underage Festival,  26 Shacklewell Lane, London, E8 2EZ or email it to info@underagefestival.me.uk.
- a current copy of a DLA letter or a copy of a disabled parking badge
- proof of purchase of your Underage Festival ticket
